Wikipedia defines data as “any sequence of one or more symbols given meaning by specific act of interpretation”.

Let us think for a moment about a photograph.

No longer the result of a series of chemical reactions in a darkened room but an interpretation of data, today a photograph is only a photograph because a computer says it is – it could just as easily be a sound, video or 3D model.

In this work the artists set out as contemporary archaeologists, searching for and sifting data from unexpected places. By then manipulating how the computer handles this data, they have let new and surprising outcomes be created.
